During the December TPO Board meeting, members voted on the 2024 TPO Board Officers and committee assignments. Commissioner Gwen Myers was re-elected as Chair of the Board, and Mayor Andy Ross was re-elected as the Vice Chair. The Board also decided to reappoint last year’s committee assignments.

Additionally, the TPO Board approved both the 2050 Plan Needs Assessment for Real Choices When Not Driving and the 2050 Plan Needs Assessment for the State of Good Repair and Resilience. Both of these Needs Assessments are integral parts of the upcoming Access 2050: Long Range Transportation Plan which will help to forecast the future needs of local transportation as well as identify projects to prioritize. Some Board members emphasized the difficulty planners face in developing accurate project cost estimates, with some acknowledging that factors outside of our control can greatly impact costs, particularly over a 25-year period. The members also suggested communicating needs using visual aids to better demonstrate the impacts of making these investments across our communities. Recognizing these challenges, they communicated their hope that the public understands that the information used to build the Access 2050: Long Range Transportation Plan is received as a potential future scenario rather than a definitive implementation plan.

In response to these thoughtful deliberations, TPO Staff and study experts clarified that the presented information serves as estimates, intending to initiate constructive conversations and lay the groundwork for future implementation plans. The meeting concluded with Commissioner Myers wishing everyone a safe holiday season and expressing her excitement for serving on the TPO Board in the upcoming year.
