The Hillsborough TPO is kick-starting a study aimed at boosting safety and adding a splash of vibrancy to Waters Avenue (1.5 miles between Armenia and Florida Avenues) and Sligh Avenue (2 miles between Armenia and Nebraska Avenues). These street sections have been identified as high-injury locations, meaning it’s time to rev up our efforts to ensure everyone can move safely in these communities.

Here’s the lowdown on what this Vision Zero Streets Study is all about:

  • Spotting patterns: Identifying the patterns and factors behind severe and fatal crashes.
  • Sprucing up the streets: It’s also about jazzing up our streets as places for people, not just cars, while also amping up the safety.
  • Best practices in play: Mixing fresh ideas and the best existing strategies to slash the risk of crashes. Safety first, always!

Your voice matters! There are multiple ways for you to weigh in with your concerns and ideas for improvements throughout the planning process. We have launched a brief survey. If you travel on Waters or Sligh Avenues, we would love for you to Take the Survey and tell us what you’d love to see preserved and/or changed along these roadways. Whether it’s smoother sidewalks or flashier crosswalks, bring your thoughts into the mix.

Two awesome in-person public meetings are scheduled you to dig into the nitty-gritty of the study, give your two cents, and learn how we can make these streets safer for all users. Join us on September 12 and on October 10 for a double dose of community engagement. It’s a chance to come together to create a more safe and vibrant community. Both public meetings will be held from 6:30-8 pm at the Salvation Army at 1100 W Sligh Avenue in Tampa.
