West Riverwalk segmentThe TPO will consider a TIP Amendment at the Board meeting on September 14, 2021. This TIP amendment was requested by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to add $24 million as construction funds to extend the City of Tampa’s West Riverwalk from I-275 to Columbus Drive. The U.S.  Department of Transportation (USDOT) awarded the $24 million grant to the City in 2020 as part of its Better Utilizing Investment to Leverage Development (BUILD) program. In addition, there will be a local match of 20% ($6 million) for a total project cost of $30 million.

This high priority project will add over 12 miles of multimodal path separated from automobiles that will provide safe and convenient access to some of the local destinations on the west side of the Hillsborough River to downtown Tampa. It will be a phased project built in six phases, expanding connections and providing a variety of safe mobility options to connect to transit stations, the TECO streetcar, water taxis, and some major roadways in the area.
