The April TPO Board meeting marked the arrival of two new faces at the table. Justin Hall, the newly appointed FDOT District 7 Secretary, joined the Board following the retirement of Secretary David Gwynn. Michael Stephens, recently named CEO of Tampa International Airport, also took his seat as the airport’s new representative. Their presence brings fresh perspectives and continued momentum to the Board’s regional transportation efforts.

The first action item of the meeting was the approval of amendments to the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for the Branch Forbes Road and McIntosh Road widening projects. With a unanimous 15-0 vote, the Board advanced these important upgrades, which are expected to enhance safety and mobility, improve connectivity, and reduce flooding on the roadways. The Board also approved the selections for the General Planning Consultant (GPC) Procurement. This process enables the TPO to bring on planning firms to support upcoming studies and transportation initiatives. During the discussion, a request was made for staff to provide the total cost of the contracts, and TPO staff confirmed that this information will be shared once negotiations are finalized.

The meeting continued with updates on the TPO’s annual Priority List and the Suncoast Parkway Project Development & Environment (PD&E) Study from Van Dyke Road to SR 52.
