The Box City planning experience debuts at local summer camps

box city summer campAugust 2019 – Plan Hillsborough staff took the Box City planning experience to summer camp at the Tampa Heights Junior Civic Association and Dowdell Middle School in Palm River. Each camp voted on their city’s name, Heaven and Astro World, respectively. The elementary and middle school kids learned about the importance of community planning. As their box cities came to life, they discussed important considerations like transportation and land use planning for residential, commercial, industrial, public facilities, and green spaces. Part of the program was also dedicated to Vision Zero, which culminated in the summer camp festival. A big thanks to Kierra Zuokemefa, Gena Torres, Wanda West, and Diego Guerra for making Box City a huge success!
