Let’s discuss how our community ensures transportation accessibility, especially for those in need. Established in 1979 by the Florida Legislature, the Transportation Disadvantaged (TD) Program addresses barriers faced by older adults, individuals with disabilities, low-income individuals, and at-risk children in accessing healthcare, education, and employment due to limited transportation options. In Hillsborough County, the Transportation Disadvantaged Coordinating Board (TDCB) plays a crucial role. Comprising advocates, state agencies, service providers, and elected officials, the TDCB advises on TD services through our Community Transportation Coordinator (CTC), the Sunshine Line. This service provides door-to-door options for those outside the HART service area and coordinates bus passes or paratransit within it.

The Sunshine Line, designated by the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners, ensures access to essential activities and services, enhancing the quality of life for residents with reliable transportation options.

Moving forward, the TDCB continues to advocate for transportation improvements and innovations in collaboration with local and state partners like the CTD and Hillsborough TPO, addressing the unique needs of our diverse population.

Together, we’re making sure everyone in Hillsborough County can reach where they need to go.
