Tampa’s population grew by 27% from 2010 – 2020

December 2021 – This is the third in a series of articles looking at population growth from 2010 – 2020.  In this period, the City of Tampa grew by the highest percentage of any jurisdiction in Hillsborough County[i]. It grew 27% to 392,953 people. More than one of every four new residents moved to the City of Tampa. Back in August, the Census Bureau released its first batch of data and new releases will continue through 2022.  Since this data is at the block level, we can look at population dynamics in small areas within Tampa.

As seen in Figure 1, below, new residents moving to Tampa from 2010-2020 moved primarily to Downtown, Central Tampa, New Tampa, and South Tampa. Figure 2 lists twelve ZIP codes in Tampa which experienced population growth over 20%. They ranged from 12% (33609 in Westshore) to 70% (33619 in Palm River). Overall, average population growth by ZIP Code was 22%.
