Summer Camp Festival revolves around safety and fun!

July 2019 – On Saturday, July 20, the Hillsborough MPO and Hillsborough Vision Zero Coalition joined with great community partners to celebrate in a Summer Camp Festival at the Tampa Heights Community Center. The Tampa Police Department hosted a bike rodeo to help the kids brush up on their bicycle safety skills.

Twenty bicycles with helmets, locks, and lights were given away to summer campers by onbikes. The kids enjoyed treats, as they got to paint a safety street mural designed by the summer camp students, as interpreted by artist Angela Forero, at the intersection of Ross and Lamar. We were grateful to have painting assistance from Tampa City Councilman Orlando Gudes and State Representative Dianne Hart.

Summer camp would not have been possible without the amazing community volunteers and donations from the Tampa Heights Junior Civic Association, Hillsborough County, Hillsborough County School District, the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County, Lyfe-Stile Network, and the Andrew Joseph Foundation. Thank you to the Women’s Transportation Seminar – Tampa Chapter, Planning Commission, and Tampa Bay ITE/George F. Young, Inc. for donations making the mural possible. We have nothing but ongoing appreciation to the City of Tampa and the Tampa Police Department for their continued support of Vision Zero initiatives in our community.
