Regional collaboration helps bring home state grants

regional arteryAugust 2019 – On July 19, the TBARTA MPO Chairs Coordinating Committee (CCC) held a public hearing and approved an update of new regional priorities, including regionally significant multi-use trail projects. Several Hillsborough projects remain on the candidate list for funding through the Florida SUNTrail or FDOT District-level Transportation Alternatives program. The Transportation Regional Incentive Program (TRIP) also provides funding through a 50/50 state/local match. TRIP recently funded Hillsborough projects, including an advanced traffic management systems for Dale Mabry Highway, Bruce B Downs Boulevard, and Downtown Tampa, as well as HART’s regional farebox project.

The CCC also reviewed potential changes to its interlocal agreement to better define its area and scope, which differentiates from TBARTA’s. The CCC would like to reestablish itself with a new identity and several subcommittees, one of which would be the Tampa Bay TMA Leadership Group. The discussion was well received and is being referred to the individual MPOs for consideration prior to the CCC’s December 6 meeting.
