Proposed TIP Amendment aims to make railroad crossings safer

railroad crossing signNovember 2022 – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has requested an amendment to the 2022/23 Transportation Improvement Plan to add funds for a project that can increase safety at railroad crossings along Polk St. in downtown Tampa.

If approved, the amendment would add $119,580 to the TIP, allowing FDOT to purchase equipment that would enable CSX operators to activate signals at rail crossings along Polk Street. Currently, nine signals are located along Polk St. between the Cass St. bridge and Nebraska Ave.

The TPO Board will consider the TIP amendment at its meeting on December 14, 2022 at 10 a.m. To view the amendment, visit planhillsborough.org/tip-amendment-polk-street-rail-crossing-technology
