Plan Hillsborough recognition

November 2021 – The Sun Coast section of the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) held its annual Awards ceremony on Thursday, November 17 at Shuffle. Congratulation to all of the award winners, including several from Plan Hillsborough:

On Wednesday, November 16, a celebration of USF’s Master’s of Urban & Regional Planning (MURP) program accreditation and the retirement of MURP Program Director & Master Instructor Mark Hafen was held. During the program, Plan Hillsborough staff, Melissa Dickens, AICP, and Dr. Johnny Wong, were mentioned for their extensive contributions to the MAPS mentoring program. The Sun Coast Section of the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association and the USF MURP created the Mentor a Planning Student (MAPS) program. MAPS is an official program of APA Florida.

Katrina Corcoran was also mentioned for being the incoming Chair of Sun Coast APA.

And, Bob Bernhart was appointed to APA Florida‘s Executive Committee for a one-year term as Student Representative. Bob grew up in Sarasota, Florida and holds a BA in Spanish from Colorado State University. He is currently a fellow at Plan Hillsborough, where he is working on projects including updates to the county comprehensive plan’s mobility and capital improvements elements.
