Three new miles of safe, connected trails are on the way in FY2031, thanks to Hillsborough County winning a highly competitive $11.7M SUN Trail grant.
The nearly 3-mile stretch along the Upper Tampa Bay Trail, from Peterson Road to Van Dyke Road, will provide bicyclists and pedestrians with a safe and convenient way to travel, linking two existing trail segments and offering cyclists an off-road option instead of high-speed roadways.
The new trail will feature sections that are 12 feet wide and others that are 10 feet wide, giving plenty of room for everyone to enjoy. A large portion of the project will run as a side path along Gunn Highway, between Peterson Road and Van Dyke Road, making it a key connector in the area.
This project is part of the larger Coast-to-Coast (C2C) trail effort, which will eventually span about 250 miles across Florida. According to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), the C2C trail is already 88% complete, and this new segment brings us even closer to the finish line.
