Park Study event conjured up community comments

Plan Hillsborough staff conducting public outreach for Park Speed StudyNovember 2021 – From bicycle riders on the trail to children on the playground, Hillsborough TPO’s Safe Routes to Parks Halloween event shared sweet treats with community members of all ages in exchange for their invaluable input on how to make their walk to the park safer. The event took place on Friday, Oct. 29 across three locations: Copeland Park, Sulphur Springs Park, and the Upper Tampa Bay Trail. Dozens of community members shared ideas on safety recommendations that included better lighting, wider sidewalks, and traffic calming measures such as speed bumps.

Information gathered contributed to Hillsborough TPO’s Park Speed Zone Pilot Study, a project that examined conditions of roads around parks throughout Hillsborough County to develop a safety process to calm speeds and improve safety on adjoining roads.
