The Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission, in partnership with the City of Tampa Planning Department, is leading an important update to the Tampa Comprehensive Plan. This multi-phase project, looking ahead to the year 2045, will guide growth and development across the city with a focus on sustainability, resilience, and quality of life.
As part of this latest phase, updates are being made to five key sections of the Comprehensive Plan: Recreation and Open Space, Capital Improvements, Intergovernmental Coordination, Solid Waste, and Definitions. Draft updates for each section will be available for public review in early June on the project webpage, which also includes additional information on each topic.
Here’s a quick look at what each section aims to address:
- Recreation and Open Space: Ensures Tampa’s parks and open spaces remain accessible, well-maintained, and aligned with environmental and community needs.
- Capital Improvements: Outlines how the City prioritizes capital projects to support long-term fiscal health and resilience.
- Intergovernmental Coordination: Focuses on how the City works with other agencies to address shared challenges such as transportation, environmental protection, and school planning.
- Solid Waste: Provides a framework for managing waste sustainably and efficiently.
- Definitions: Establishes clear, shared language to guide implementation of the Plan.
