The Hillsborough County Health Atlas is a living tool intended to provide communities and planners a baseline profile of chronic disease, demographic, transportation, emergency preparedness, and environmental indicators within our communities.

The Health Atlas was one of the objectives of the Garden Steps Initiative, which aims to create community gardens in food deserts with easy access by foot, bike and bus in the city of Tampa. The goal is to improve health equity and population health by increasing easy access to fresh fruits and vegetables.

In 2019, Hillsborough Transportation Planning Organization’s Garden Steps project was first runner-up in Aetna’s Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge and awarded $50,000 to continue their work to improve health equity in the city of Tampa.
