During the week of May 28, Plan Hillsborough hosted around 30 local high school students who participated in the Future Leaders in Planning (FLiP) student leadership development program. This year’s program was a great success and provided many opportunities for the students to explore urban planning as a potential career.
We extend our gratitude to all our amazing partners and contributors who helped make FLIP possible – Hillsborough County Public Schools, ULI Tampa Bay, Sun Coast Section of APA Florida, Pritchett Steinbeck Group, TECO, and Urban Planning Innovations – who donated resources, time, and/or subject matter expertise. We are also grateful to our transportation partners, Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation, Hillsborough County Public Schools, and the TECO Streetcar for facilitating site visits.
Students were provided multiple opportunities to network with professionals in various planning fields and then experienced being planners themselves. Over the course of the week, they were able to work on two high profile projects. They first did community planning along the Fowler Avenue Vision Study area and then developed proposals for the Museum of Science and Industry’s site.
