Enhancing walk and bike connections for West Tampa

August 2018 – The neighborhoods of West Tampa have been experiencing a wave of reinvestment, revitalization, and growth. In conjunction with this continued economic and social success, the MPO has produced a West Tampa Multimodal Plan. The Plan takes a closer look at the walk bike network in the West Tampa neighborhoods to ensure that pedestrians and bicyclists of all ages and abilities have a safe, inviting and well connected transportation network for their use. The Plan’s focus is to enable pedestrian connections to major activity centers in West Tampa and connects to Downtown Tampa and the Westshore district.

Gaps in the walk bike networks within the West Tampa community have also been studied and recommendations have been made to complete them. An additional goal of the Plan is to address gaps in the Regional Trail system between Dale Mabry and Downtown. The Plan provides four options to achieve this goal. Building on previous planning initiatives, this Plan reinforces and updates connections between existing and planned walk/bike facilities by enhancing a safe and comfortable experience for pedestrians and bicyclists.
