Access to a fair, safe, secure, and reasonably priced living environment profoundly impacts various factors contributing to improved quality of life. The quality of available housing significantly affects the health and well-being of families, children, the elderly, and the workforce in Tampa. To foster a sustainable quality of life, residents must have access to affordable and decent housing options. As the share of cost-burdened households who spend more than 30% of their income on housing increases, housing has become a vital issue at the forefront for many of Tampa’s residents.

The City of Tampa is committed to creating a framework for a more equitable distribution of housing and services that are affordable to all income levels. The City of Tampa Comprehensive Plan’s Housing Section provides a long-range vision to achieve this. The Section’s five objectives include affordability; stability, resilience, and sustainability; healthy communities; supply; and access. Through these goals, objectives, and policies, the Section provides an overarching framework for housing-related City initiatives.
