Affordable housing availability not keeping up with growth

January 2019 – Hillsborough County is expecting 714,000 more people and 454,000 more jobs by 2045. Since at least 2013, we’ve added the equivalent of one (city of) Temple Terrace every year, that’s more than 28,000 people every year. There has been very little multi-family construction occurring in the unincorporated area of Hillsborough County. Under the existing land use plan, the County’s 52,000 acres of vacant and re-developable land will not meet our housing needs. WUSF News hosted a series in December highlighting America’s affordable housing crunch and its impact here at home. The series kick off, How We Got Here, included an interview with our own librarian and project manager, Terry Eagan.
