Big changes are coming to Hillsborough County’s roads, and we’re here to fill you in! Access 2050, our Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), is all about using data to guide smart investments—and now, it’s getting some updates. 

FDOT District 7 and Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) are requesting amendments to include several new projects aimed at easing congestion and improving safety. Here’s what’s on the table: 

FDOT Projects 

These two road-widening projects just finished the planning phase and are moving into design: 

  • McIntosh Road: Expanding from 2 to 4 lanes between South of US 92 and North of I-4. 
  • Branch Forbes Road: Expanding from 2 to 4 lanes between South of US 92 and North of I-4. 

FTE Projects 

The Turnpike team is focusing on the I-4 Connector and Veterans Expressway: 

  • I-4 Connector: Interchange improvements at I-4. 
  • Veterans Expressway: Adding 2 lanes from Hillsborough Ave to Anderson Rd. 
  • Veterans Expressway Interchanges: Upgrades at Hillsborough Ave, Anderson Rd, Wilsky Blvd, and Linebaugh Ave. 

What’s Next? 

We’re reviewing how these projects stack up against others in Access 2050 to ensure they meet our community’s needs. The proposed amendments will go before the TPO Board on February 12, 2025—stay tuned!
