The time has come to update the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and Priority List! This year’s TIP Hearing will be held on June 11th, at 6 p.m. on the 2nd floor of County Center. Updated annually, the TIP is a list of federally funded transportation projects that span over the next 5 years. A few highlights from this year’s TIP include construction of the Westshore Interchange as well as capacity projects to ease congestion for MLK, SR-60, and US 41 as well as auxiliary lanes on I-4 in eastern Hillsborough. You can also expect to see many projects dedicated to maintaining a state of good repair including repaving roads, maintaining bridges, improving drainage, replacing buses, and improving bus shelters. With safety being a priority, pedestrian safety improvements along roads such as Fowler Avenue and Busch Boulevard are also outlined in the TIP. New infrastructure such as sidewalks, side paths, and upgraded traffic signals can also be expected.
The Priority List can be described as the list of unfunded or partially funded projects the TPO Board prioritizes for new funding. It is developed through an application process with local governments and transportation operators. Project applications are evaluated and ranked in order of priority, consistent with the TPO’s planning process. Projects from the Priority List are used to guide which projects get added to the TIP once funding becomes available, making it a key step in moving from planning to implementation. Some notable completed projects from the Priority List include the Howard Frankland Bridge, the Boy Scout Boulevard at Manhattan Avenue Intersection Improvements, pedestrian upgrades at Nebraska Avenue, and new traffic signals at US 301 and Harney Road, Stacy Road, and McIntosh Road.
